Registered Nurse (RN) - Professional who holds either a Bachelor's of Science or an Associate of Science from an accredited university or college and continues to maintain an active license in satisfactory standards.  Thereafter, obtains a state license by the Department of Health to many nursing services; for example but not limited to nursing assessments, administration of medication, IV therapy and other direct skilled care services. The nurse can have a direct relationship with your doctor to better prepare or render care.

 

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Professional who holds a license by the Department of Health after passing a stated examination.  This professional performs skilled care services both independent and supervised by a Registered Nurse.

 

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Professional who holds a certification from successfully passing the state requirements, demonstrating knowledge and proficiency in providing ADL's (Activities of Daily Living).  Usually this professional can receive directives from a nurse to perform tasks within the scope of their training.

Physical therapist assistant (PTA) provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist. PTAs help people of all ages who have medical problems, or other health-related conditions that limit their ability to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.

Physician Assistant (PA) is a health care practitioner which practices medicine in collaboration or under indirect supervision of a physician, depending on state laws. Physicians do not need to be on-site with PAs and collaboration or supervision often occurs via electronic means when consults are necessary.

Medical Assistant (MA) also known as a "clinical assistant" or healthcare assistant in the US is an allied health professional who supports the work of physicians and other health professionals, usually in a clinic setting. Medical assistants can become certified through an accredited program.
